Our Mission:
We are dedicated to developing competent post-professional physical therapy clinicians who are specialized in orthopedics, who strive for continual improvements in patient care, and who are active in making positive impacts within their communities. We supplement and support our residents in remaining current within the orthopedic physical therapy specialty, in achieving and maintaining top quality patient care, and in engaging and educating the communities they will serve including child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Each resident will be prepared to function as an interdependent practitioner through:
- Patient Care of Orthopaedic Conditions/Diagnoses
- Mentorship
- Didactic Instruction, Independent Study, Grand Rounds
- Critical Analysis of Scientific Literature and Application to Orthopaedic Clinical
Practice.
Program Outcomes:
Upon Completion Each Resident Will:
- Demonstrate specialist-level clinical reasoning and manual therapy proficiency.
- Demonstrate the skills and knowledge to successfully complete the Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) Exam.
- Add value to the sponsoring organization and demonstrate professionalism, good communication skills, and effective collaboration with peers.
- Demonstrate specialist level patient care in decision making and psychomotor skills in manual examination and selection of appropriate interventions.
- Exhibit professionalism, communication, and leadership within the field.
- Deliver exceptional, evidence-informed patient care across all populations.
Program Overview:
Our 12-month residency offers a comprehensive blend of advanced clinical training, mentorship, and academic enrichment. Residents are immersed in a dynamic learning environment that emphasizes evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and professional development.
Through structured mentorship, clinical experience, and didactic instruction, residents refine their skills in evaluating and managing a wide range of orthopaedic conditions while learning to integrate the latest research into practice.
Key Program Components
- Clinical Experience: 37 hours/week of patient care, including 3hours of direct mentorship.
- Didactic & Independent Study: Grand rounds, case discussions, and online independent study courses
- Professional Development: In-service presentations, written and practical examinations, and case submission for publication or presentation.
- Community Engagement: Service projects and outreach events to support and educate the community.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a DPT degree from a CAPTE-accredited program.
- Be eligible for Idaho licensure.
- Submit two letters of recommendation and complete two interviews.
Learning Expectations
Each Resident Will:
- Deliver independent and mentored patient care weekly.
- Participate in grand rounds and faculty-led discussions.
- Complete practical and written examinations.
- Engage in research and community service initiatives.
